Prince of Peace Montessori School is excited to announce that five of its students are headed to the Odyssey of The Mind World Finals May 25-28, 2016 at Iowa State University in Ames, IA.
The Prince of Peace Montessori students, ages 8-10, qualified after
placing first at the Kentucky Odyssey of the Mind State Tournament on April 2, 2016. The students will be representing Northern Kentucky and competing against more than 800 teams from countries all around the world including China, Japan, Germany, South Korea, Mexico and Canada.
The students have qualified to compete in Division 1 and will be solving a structure problem that requires them to design, build, and test a structure, made only of balsa wood and glue that will balance and support as much weight as possible–twice.
In order to attend the tournament, the team will need to raise $7,000 to cover registration, room and board, and transportation expenses. To help the students raise some of the funds needed, Prince of Peace Montessori will host a “Attack the Stack” Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, April 24 from 10am – 1pm. Hosted in the school’s cafeteria, attendees can enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, sausage links, and beverage (OJ, Milk, Coffee) for $5 per plate. Keeping with the theme of the breakfast, attendees can “Attack the Stack” for $1 per extra pancake. In addition, Covington staple, Riverfront Pizza, will host Prince of Peace Odyssey Night on Monday, April 18 from 4pm-9pm. The restaurant will donate 20% of sales from diners who note they are there to support the school.
Individuals, who would like to make a donation in support of the team, can also do so via PayPal by visiting http://www.youcaring.com/popomwf or by dropping off or mailing a donation to Prince of Peace Montessori, 625 Pike St, Covington, KY. 41011. Checks should be made out to “Prince of Peace Montessori.”
