What is required of parents in the Montessori program?

It is mandatory that parents of a Montessori child be integrally involved in the educational process.  There are many ways in which to be involved:  volunteering in the classroom, study on Montessori methods and philosophy, parent education nights, classroom observations, hospitality events, field trips,  Prince of Peace Parents’ Club, Montessori Committee, etc.  Since additional and replacement equipment is needed in the Montessori program, additional fund-raising is conducted, and parental support is expected in this area as well.

Is it possible to be placed on a waiting list?

When the class has reached maximum size, accepted applicants who choose may be placed on a waiting list.  A $10 fee is asked to secure a place on the waiting list.

What are the criteria for enrollment?

The school attempts to maintain a balance among the age levels and genders in the classroom.  Prince of Peace does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in its admission policies. This criteria is followed:

1.        Ability of the program to meet the needs of the student in the present classroom community (Prior Montessori experience is a consideration.)

2.        Children currently enrolled in Prince of Peace Kindergarten

3.        Children whose siblings are currently enrolled

4.        Students with previous Montessori experience

5.        After admitting those currently enrolled and their siblings, parishioners of the four sponsoring parishes followed by non-parishioners

How do I start the enrollment process?

Call the school office (859-431-5153) to request information or call the school office to request a time to visit the classroom for observation.

What are the steps for enrollment?

The following are the steps that must be followed for enrollment:

1.        Parent observes in the classroom for about one hour

2.        Complete Montessori questionnaire

3.        Student interviews with the teacher (1st level students are interviewed beginning in January)

4.        Letter of acceptance is sent and registration papers must  be completed

5.        Submit registration papers and $200 non-refundable registration fee

($100 of this fee is a first time fee, and $100 is a down payment on the first month’s tuition)

At what age may my child enroll?

Prince of Peace Montessori is open to students aged six through thirteen.  At thirteen, the student may choose to join the Prince of Peace Junior High Program or proceed into our newly formed Montessori Junior High.  We currently have a traditional kindergarten program but do not have a Montessori (ages 3 – 6) program.  There are currently quite a few (ages 3 – 6) Montessori programs in the area.
