September 17, 2008

 Dear Parents,

This week we have been talking with your children about the importance of getting their work finished on time.  We have talked about what it means to focus on work, what it means to move with a purpose, and the need to understand the directions for the assignments.  We were going to wrap up our apple experiment today, but it has been postponed due to the fact that many children had not made their three observations about the apples.  This helped the children to understand that there are logical results to not finishing their work on time.

There are many assignments that aren't getting finished by their due dates (and a few that are finished, but not getting turned in).  Yesterday every child was given a new typed list of every assignment and the due dates.  They have been using these lists to help them prioritize what works they need to do.  If your child brings a work home in his/her orange folder, please make sure that it is finished and returned to school by the next school day.  Please make sure that you are checking over your child's work.  I know they feel frustrated when they turn in a work they worked hard on the night before, but it can't be checked off the assignment board because there are corrections.

Thank you for your help in keeping your children caught up on assignments.  We do not want to stop teaching new material, but we do want to keep caught up.

Logan, Wesley, Tommy, and Alex have show and tell this week.

Amy Frohlich has volunteered to help give spelling tests this Thursday.  We have Pick-a-stick this Thursday, as well.

Christina Howard has volunteered to help copy homework and stuff homework folders on Friday.

Our Walk-a-Thon has been rescheduled for this Friday.  Please help your children remember to dress comfortably and to wear appropriate shoes.

We celebrated Wesley’s birthday today and are going to celebrate Tommy's on Monday.

We still need a volunteer to assist in the tech lab on Tuesday.  We’d also like to remind you that the VIRTUS training at Prince of Peace is tonight at .  Anyone who wants to volunteer at school needs this training.  If you do not have it and plan to volunteer, please show up tonight.

Have a great week,

Kate and Sara
