Dear Third Grade Student,

We are going to need you to bring in a plain colored, blank t-shirt next week.  We will be ironing a design on them, so that you can decorate a shirt while we are on our Field Trip.  If your mom or dad has any questions please ask them to e-mail us.

Thanks,

Ms. DeLay and Ms. Young

April 30, 2008

Dear Parents,

The seeds we planted last week are sprouting, which is against our student predictions of them sprouting in 1-2 months.  We will be sending them home soon with the Oberts to be planted and cared for over the summer.  Hopefully we will have a good crop and get to taste the vegetables next fall.

This week we have continued our study of Australia.  We posted the descriptions of the Australia projects on-line, for easy reference.  Remember these projects are due May 22.

With the changing weather that we have been experiencing please make sure that your child brings a water bottle and a jacket to school every day.  If your child needs allergy medicine it needs to go to the office, along with a note.

Have a great week,

Beth and Katie

Montessori I - Second Grade Australia Project - Due 5/22 PDF Print E-mail
Montessori I News

Dear Second Graders,

For your Australian project, you are going to impress your fellow students and your teachers with your incredible knowledge of an Australian landmark.  You will choose a landmark in Australia and then prepare a poster and a presentation for your landmark.  You may choose a natural landmark (volcanoes or mountains or the Great Barrier Reef) or a manmade landmark (the Sydney Opera House).  It is completely your choice in what you would like to do.  You will need to start by researching Australia and deciding what landmark is of most interest to you.  I have given just a few examples, but your topic is your choice!

If your landmark is natural, you must include the following on your poster:

            1.  Location

            2.  When it was discovered

            3.  How it has been important to the land

            4.  Do people visit?  Why or why not?

            5.  Pictures of the landmark

            6.  As many interesting facts as you want!

If your landmark is manmade, you must include the following on your poster:

            1.  Location (city)

            2.  When it was built

            3.  What makes it special?

            4.  Why do people go there?

            5.  Pictures of the landmark

            6.  As many interesting facts as you want!

Please have fun with this assignment!  It is yours to be as creative as you choose and to give us as much information about your landmark as you can.

Remember your project is due Thursday, May 22.

Have fun!

Ms. DeLay and Ms. Young

Montessori I - First Grade Australia Project - Due 5/22 PDF Print E-mail
Montessori I News

Dear First Graders!

You are the lucky grade that gets to make food for our Australian Feast for the end of the year.  You will choose one dish that is eaten in Australia to prepare for the class and share it with everyone at our Feast.

Project:

1.  Design a placemat.

2.  Your placemat should include the following:

            a.  1 main dish

            b.  3 side dishes

            c.  1 dessert

            d.  1 drink

            e.  Anything else you choose to put on!

3.  Create the placemat so that it is large enough to display to the class.

4.  Prepare a presentation to explain your placemat and tell what you learned about

Australian foods.

            5.  Choose one recipe that you would like to make for the class.

            6.  Have a parent e-mail the recipe to Ms. DeLay at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it so that she may

put them on the website for the whole class.

Enjoy researching foods from Australia.  Try to find exotic foods for us to learn about and taste!

Have fun!

Ms. DeLay and Ms. Young
